PERSONALItY DISORDERS

COMPLEX TRAUMA

In my clinical experience, personality disorders are deeply intertwined with the concept of complex trauma. Rather than viewing personality disorders as fixed or inherent characteristics of individuals, I approach them through a trauma-informed lens, recognizing that they often develop as adaptive responses to adverse experiences and relational patterns in early life. These experiences can include neglect, abuse, invalidation, and disrupted attachment, leading to profound disruptions in emotional regulation, self-perception, and interpersonal relationships.

By understanding personality disorders as manifestations of complex trauma, we can shift away from stigmatizing labels and instead focus on the underlying wounds and coping mechanisms that individuals have developed to survive in challenging environments. This perspective allows for a more compassionate, knowledgeable, and healing approach to treatment, centered on mending the root causes of distress rather than pathologizing the individual. You are the way you are, for a very good reason. Through trauma-informed therapy, I create a space conducive for healing. By fostering empathy, understanding, and proven methodology, I support clients in their journey towards healing, resilience, and reclaiming agency over their lives.
