EMDR Eye Movement Desensitization Therapy

ABOut emdr

Incorporating Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) into my therapy practice allows me to provide effective treatment for individuals struggling with trauma, anxiety, phobias, childhood wounds, and other related issues. EMDR is a research-backed approach that facilitates rapid processing and resolution of distressing memories, emotions, physical sensations, and experiences.                                               A large part of this process is the use of bi-lateral stimulation, which can be done through eye movements, audio, and/or physical tapping. With a focus on harnessing the brain's natural healing abilities, EMDR empowers clients to overcome obstacles, find relief, and ultimately achieve lasting emotional well-being. As a therapist committed to delivering evidence-based care, integrating EMDR in a holistic treatment plan, enriches my practice and enhances the outcomes for those I serve.

8 phases of Emdr

Here's a simplified explanation of the 8 phases of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR):

1. History-taking and Treatment Planning: We discuss your history and decide what specific memories, emotions, and physical sensations you want to work on.

2. Preparation: We develop coping skills to manage any distress that may come up during the process. I ensure that you are fully prepared and comfortable to begin.

3. Assessment: We map out targets to focus on during the trauma processing.

4. Desensitization: You're asked to bring up the disturbing issue and focus simultaneously on the specific bilateral stimulation tailored to you. This allows the brain to heal while also staying within tolerated levels of distressing emotions, until they are processed.

5. Installation: We install positive beliefs and feelings that are strengthened to replace negative ones associated with the disturbance, while using bilateral stimulation.

6. Body Scan: We check in with your body to see if there's any remaining tension or discomfort related to the disturbance.

7. Closure: The session is wrapped up, and you're provided with coping strategies to use until the next session.

8. Re-evaluation: In subsequent sessions, progress is monitored, and adjustments are made as needed.
